From a BOA guest

"I did two ferratas with Bosnian Outdoor Adventures and I totally recommend. The ferratas (Bijele stijene on Trebević and the one on Bukovik) are stunning, with beautiful views on Sarajevo and surroundings, especially the one on Trebević. My guide Jen was very friendly and considerate. Communication with the organisation went smooth."

Bukovik sits in the wooded Skakavac protected area on Sarajevski Ozren. From the trailhead at Uževica, the approach follows the Sedam Vrela path before branching toward Bijela Stijena. The walk to the cable takes about 30 minutes.

The route is a compact grade B, with 105 metres of cable and 70 metres of height gain. Much of the climbing stays in the shade, and a typical crossing takes half an hour. BOA uses it for first-time climbers because the line is short, the clipping rhythm is easy to learn and the terrain remains manageable.

The marked descent rejoins the path near the Sedam Vrela spring in about 30 minutes. Skakavac waterfall and the surrounding hiking trails are close enough to add to the same outing.

BOA guides climb Bukovik - Bijela Stijena regularly. Cable and anchor condition changes; your guide checks the route on the day.

Route & suitability

Our easiest ferrata: 105 metres of cable and 70 metres of height gain in the forest of Skakavac Nature Park, mostly in shade. Graded B, about half an hour on the cable, with room to learn clipping before anyone is waiting behind you. If it is your first time on a cable, start here. Add the walk to the 98-metre Skakavac waterfall if you want a longer day.

Best for

  • First-time ferrata guests with basic fitness who are comfortable on uneven terrain, short climbs, and following guide instructions.
  • Guests who want a guided climbing-style route with proper technical equipment and coaching.

Not ideal for

  • Guests with a severe fear of heights who do not want exposed cable-protected terrain.
  • Travelers looking for a high-intensity alpine challenge.

Tell us honestly about your comfort with heights before booking Via Ferrata Bukovik. The best ferrata day starts with the right route, fitted gear, and a calm briefing before the first cable.
