Fortica is a short protected route on the wall above Mostar. It has 200 metres of cable, 80 metres of height gain and a suspension bridge partway through. Most of the line is A/B, with a few short C moves, and the crossing usually takes about 30 minutes.

The approach begins near the middle zipline station and drops below the ridge to the cable in roughly ten minutes. During the climb the Old Bridge and the city remain in view. The top is beside the Fortica Skywalk and the sport climbing area, rather than on an isolated summit.

The route is also known as Đavolje Stepenice, or Devil's Stairs. You can return by the steps and the marked approach path, or follow the marked path uphill from the exit to the zipline station.

BOA guides climb Fortica regularly. Cable and anchor condition changes; your guide checks the route on the day.

Route & suitability

200 metres of cable and 80 metres of height gain on the wall above Fortica fortress, ten minutes from the road. Graded A/B and about half an hour of climbing, with the Old Bridge in view for most of it. There is a swinging bridge partway up, and the route finishes near the glass-floored Skywalk deck. Two hours door to door from the centre of Mostar.

Best for

  • Active guests with good basic fitness, a head for heights, and comfort moving on uneven approach terrain.
  • Guests who want a guided climbing-style route with proper technical equipment and coaching.

Not ideal for

  • Guests with a severe fear of heights who do not want exposed cable-protected terrain.
  • Guests who need flat paths only or prefer minimal walking effort.

Tell us honestly about your comfort with heights before booking Via Ferrata Fortica. The best ferrata day starts with the right route, fitted gear, and a calm briefing before the first cable.
