Via Ferrata Prenjska Vrata featured view in Jablanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, showing via ferrata terrain in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Overview

One of the most dramatic via ferratas in the Balkans, reached in a way few others are: by kayak. After a 20-minute paddle across the emerald-green Grabovica Lake on the Neretva, you climb a 250-metre Grade D route up steep cliffs at the foot of Prenj, high above the river canyon. It's serious vertical terrain built for experienced climbers, but with a guide it's open to adventurous first-timers with a strong head for heights. The descent follows a marked trail past a viewpoint above Glogošnica.

Best for

  • Fit guests with previous mountain experience who want a more committing objective.
  • Guests who want a guided climbing-style route with proper technical equipment and coaching.

Not the best fit for

  • Guests with a severe fear of heights who do not want exposed cable-protected terrain.
  • Travelers looking for a casual sightseeing walk or very flexible city schedule.

Guide advice

Tell us honestly about your comfort with heights before booking Via Ferrata Prenjska Vrata. The best ferrata day starts with the right route, fitted gear, and a calm briefing before the first cable.

Recent on-site reviews related to this route or activity.

I did two ferratas with Bosnian Outdoor Adventures and I totally recommend. The ferratas (Bijele stijene on Trebević and the one on Bukovik) are stunning, with beautiful views on Sarajevo and surroundings, especially the one on Trebević. My guide Jen was very friendly and considerate. Communication with the organisation went smooth.

Still smiling from ear to ear after the trip. Everything was excellently organized, but what stayed with me most was our guide's calm, warmth, and experience — it gave me extra confidence and the feeling that I was in good hands the whole time. A lovely human experience I'll remember for a long time.

Via Ferrata Trebević was the perfect mix of challenge and fun. The guide explained every step clearly, so we felt safe the whole way. Stunning views over Sarajevo from the top, a thorough briefing, and calm pacing made even the more exposed sections feel manageable. Easily one of the highlights of our trip to Bosnia.
