Prenjska Vrata rises above Grabovica Lake at the foot of Prenj. The wall is reached by a 20 to 25 minute kayak paddle from Donja Jablanica, so wind and water conditions matter as much as the weather on the rock.
The protected line is 250 metres long and graded D. It stays steep and exposed for much of the climb, with steel steps and handholds on the wall. Allow between one hour and 90 minutes on the cable. With a guide and additional rope protection, the route can work for a fit first-timer who is genuinely comfortable with height.
The marked return trail is about 4.7 kilometres long, passes a viewpoint above Glogošnica and finishes at a different parking area. The route was built through the Via Dinarica III project led by Klub ekstremnih sportova 4 Sezone, with support from SPK Puls and partner organisations in Jablanica and Blagaj.
BOA guides climb Prenjska Vrata regularly. Cable and anchor condition changes; your guide checks the route on the day.
Route & suitability
You reach this one by kayak. A 20-minute paddle across the green water of Grabovica Lake on the Neretva brings you to the foot of Prenj, where a 250-metre Grade D route climbs steep cliffs high above the river canyon. It is serious vertical terrain built for experienced climbers, but with a guide, first-timers with a strong head for heights can do it too. The descent follows a marked trail past a viewpoint above Glogošnica.
Best for
- Fit guests with a strong head for heights, including first-timers climbing with a guide.
- Guests who want a guided climbing-style route with proper technical equipment and coaching.
Not ideal for
- Guests with a severe fear of heights who do not want exposed cable-protected terrain.
- Travelers looking for a casual sightseeing walk or a short, flexible outing.
Tell us honestly about your comfort with heights before booking Via Ferrata Prenjska Vrata. The best ferrata day starts with the right route, fitted gear, and a calm briefing before the first cable.
