Route & suitability
Two old royal and Ottoman capitals of central Bosnia in one day, in a private car with your own guide. Travnik was the seat of the Bosnian viziers, with a hilltop fortress, the painted Colourful Mosque and the clear spring of Plava voda. Further west, Jajce is built around a waterfall where the Pliva drops straight into the Vrbas in the middle of town, under the fortress of the last Bosnian kings. On the way back you walk among the wooden watermills between the Pliva lakes.
Best for
- Travellers who want history, old towns and waterfalls without a mountain day.
- Couples, families and small groups who want their own pace and stops.
Not ideal for
- Anyone who doesn't want a long day: there are about five hours of driving in total.
- Guests who want something active. Pick the Pliva Lakes paddleboarding day instead.
Leave early and do Travnik first. That puts you in Jajce in the afternoon light, which is when the waterfall photographs best.
Good to know
- Price is €170 for one guest and €65 for each additional person, with private transport from Sarajevo and back included.
- Entrance tickets (Jajce fortress, the catacombs and the waterfall viewpoint) and lunch are paid on the day.
- Want a day on the water instead? See our Pliva Lakes paddleboarding day from Sarajevo (June to September).
